I’m struggling with some serious algorithm fatigue. Like many of you, I’m tired of the micro-trend cycles (although I am always spiritually channelling eclectic grandpa,) the Stanley Cup discourse is boring and the moral panic over tweens shopping in Sephora is… overdone. Despite this, I am still addicted to the endless scroll; the junk food of the social media experience. When I open the apps, I know what I’m looking for — I want thoughtful commentary, non-reactionary replies, composed outfits and unique, realistic homes. Unfortunately, that’s not what I’m finding.

At the moment, everything looks the same. I am trapped in Plato’s cave, looking at versions upon versions imitating the original idea. Did I lose my personal taste, or are the algorithms failing us?
