I’m in creative focus mode at the moment — I’ve started writing these newsletters, I’m sharing a video (nearly) every week, and I’m also writing songs again in the hopes of putting together a little pack of demos. This routine has made me more creatively fulfilled than I have been in years, I think partially through the discipline of running the tap and getting everything out and down. But there is a need to ingest more. I’m guilty of indulging in the endless scroll — totally fine at the right times but it tends to absorb more minutes than I’d like, minutes that could be spent doing other things. I don’t want to exist in an internet feedback loop, it makes my thoughts boring.
In response to the drain, I’m making a conscious effort to do more, read more and see more. It’s annoying that it takes intention but hey, I’m a believer in the 1% rule and hopefully I’m building a new habit in the process. I’ve just been to the new Klint and Mondrian exhibition at the Tate; it was so interesting to see abstract art that explores nature, space and spirituality (one room was just named “The Ether” which I loved.) Jack and I are going to Marrakesh next week and I can’t wait to explore somewhere completely new; this will be my first time in Africa too! I’m also reading again, I just finished Daisy Jones And The Six because I am every zillennial girl in the UK right now. Lastly, I’ve been collecting the best articles I’ve read lately, as I’m starting to do every month so I can share them here in case you too are in need of reallocating some minutes away from your endless scroll.
And so, here are the best things I read in April.
