There are times when social media can seem baron, a never-ending re-filtering and re-filtering of concepts until all the minerals are gone. Sometimes it feels like my For You Page just… isn’t working. It’s over guys, we used up all the good ideas. Everyone can go home now.

It was on one of those days that I stumbled upon my first megatrip video.

The concept is simple: George is travelling from the U.K. to Vietnam without flying. Every day there’s a new video documenting his progress, another sweaty bus and a new “Irish” pub with a Union Jack above the door. He left England in January. Somehow, in those six months he’s only just passed 25,000 followers.

We’re currently deep in Kazakstan as he struggles to get a Chinese Visa. His regular viewers are lightly goading him to make a detour through Afghanistan. I can’t believe how much of Central Asia I’ve seen, having probably never seen any Central Asian travel content until discovering his page.
